Can you tell me more about Fridays in the Forest? At Indigo, the outdoors is not a break from learning—it’s an essential part of it. Each week, nature becomes both classroom and laboratory, where students’ curiosity is nurtured and discoveries unfold organically. Almost every Friday, students spend the day immersed in nature through our “Fridays in the Forest” program, rotating between three local parks: Leakin Park, Wyman Park, and Lake Roland. These natural spaces invite observation, exploration, and wonder as children study seasonal changes, local ecosystems, native plants, and animal life. Students travel by public transportation to both Lake Roland and Wyman Park, and have the opportunity to take "field trip busses" to Leakin Park.

How can we meet the needs of all children in a mixed-age classroom?Montessori elementary teachers have the content knowledge and training to provide academic instruction for students in kindergarten through the 7th grade. Lessons are given one-on-one or in small groups to allow each child to receive differentiated instruction. The children receive as much scaffolding from the materials and the adults as they need and leave it behind when they are ready. The freedom within the Montessori classroom allows for students to collaborate together and support each other. Research shows peer tutoring results in higher test scores. Socially, the freedom within the mixed-age classroom allows children to make friends based on shared interests and personality, rather than being limited to only those who are in the same grade. Parents often remark how Montessori children are so kind and respectful of younger children, both in and out of the classroom, and how the younger children look up to the older children as mentors and leaders.

When thinking about flexible tuition, what do you mean by household income?Household income refers to gross pay, which is the total income you receive before taxes and other deductions (such as health insurance) are taken out. Our sliding scale is only a guide, as we truly want to find a tuition rate that works for your family.

What does neurodiversity look like at Indigo Montessori? We welcome neurodiversity at Indigo Montessori. Neurodiverse children often feel at home within a Montessori environment, although Indigo Montessori is not equipped to provide IEP services for students. We will work collaboratively with families to allow external occupational therapy, speech therapy, and social-emotional therapy to be provided during the school day.
